Connect social accounts

WriteMars publishes and engages through accounts you connect with OAuth. Connections are per workspace, and one workspace can hold several accounts per platform, such as a company LinkedIn page and a founder's X account.

Where​

Settings -> Channels in the sidebar. Accounts are split into two tabs, and the tab you connect under decides what the account is for:

  • Publishing accounts — used to publish variants; also usable for auto-engagement (likes, comments, reposts).
  • Engagement accounts — used only to like, comment, or repost after a post goes live. No scheduling.

Connect an account​

  1. Open Settings -> Channels and pick the right tab (publishing vs engagement).
  2. Click the platform card, then Connect.
  3. You're redirected to the platform to approve; afterwards you land back on the Channels page with the account listed (name, handle, platform).

If you're an Admin or Owner, the connect screen also asks whether this is My personal account or a Company account. A company account is visible to the whole workspace, run by all Admins and the Owner, and open to member proposals. A personal account stays yours unless you share it later. See permissions.

Gotcha: the OAuth screen uses whatever platform session is active in your browser — log in to the right platform account first. To add a second account on the same platform, log the first one out or use another browser profile and connect again.

What a connected profile is used for​

  • Publishing — every variant publishes from one publishing account, assigned when you create the variant or later.
  • Auto-engagement — likes, comments, and reposts fired after publish, from engagement (or publishing) accounts. See Auto-engagement.
  • Follower counts and metrics — WriteMars periodically syncs follower counts and post metrics for connected accounts into Analytics.
  • Approvals — anyone without direct-publish rights on the account schedules through its approvers instead of publishing directly. See Approvals.

Token refresh and expiry​

OAuth tokens expire; WriteMars refreshes them automatically right before any platform call (when a token is within ~5 minutes of expiring):

  • X (Twitter) and LinkedIn — standard OAuth refresh-token grants.

When a refresh isn't possible (revoked access, no refresh token), the action fails: a scheduled publish marks the variant failed, stores the error on it, and notifies the post's author. The fix is always the same — reconnect: run the Connect flow again for the same account. WriteMars matches on the platform account and updates the stored tokens in place; no duplicate is created.

Pause, reconnect, or remove​

Each connected account has a ⋯ menu:

  • Manage sharing — convert a personal account to a company account, let Admins draft posts for it, let Admins engage as it, add trusted members, view today's usage, resume a paused account, or open its activity feed.
  • Delete — permanent. Engagement automations using the account are removed, and scheduled posts lose their assigned account; reassign them before their publish time.

Accounts may also pause automatically after platform rate limits or repeated auth failures. A paused account stays visible, but publishing and engagement through it are blocked until it is resumed or reconnected.

A personal account is visible only to you unless you share it; company accounts are visible to every member and managed by Admins and the Owner. Who can see, use, and change each account is covered in permissions.
