Quickstart

This walkthrough takes you from a fresh account to a post scheduled for publishing. Each step links to a deeper guide; skim now, return later.

1. Sign up

Open writemars.com and enter your email, then Continue. From there:

  • Password — set one and sign in with it, or
  • One-time code — have a sign-in code emailed to you instead (use Resend if it doesn't arrive), or
  • Google / GitHub — OAuth buttons below the email form.

2. Create a workspace

A new account with no workspaces lands on Create a new workspace:

  1. Enter a Name (e.g. Acme Studio).
  2. Check the Slug — it auto-follows the name until you edit it. Letters, numbers, and hyphens only. The slug becomes your workspace URL (writemars.com/<slug>) and your API path, so keep it short.
  3. Click Create workspace. You land in the workspace's Posts view.

Invited to an existing workspace instead? The Workspace invitations screen (/workspace/invites) lists pending invitations sent to your email — select the ones you want and click Join selected, or click Create a workspace instead. More in Workspaces.

3. Connect a social account

Publishing needs a connected account, so do this early:

  1. In the sidebar, go to Settings -> Channels.
  2. Stay on the Publishing accounts tab.
  3. Click a platform card — LinkedIn or X (Twitter) — then Connect.
  4. Approve on the platform; you're returned to WriteMars with the account in the connected list.

Gotcha: log in to the right platform account in your browser before clicking Connect — the OAuth screen uses whatever session is already active. Full details (token refresh, removal, what each profile type does) in Connect social accounts.

4. Create your first post

Click New post (top right on Home, or the empty-state button). In the modal:

  • Title — the only required field.
  • Account chip — pick a connected publishing account. This creates the post's first platform variant on that account's platform.
  • Date / time chips — schedule that initial variant right away. The date chip unlocks once an account is picked. Set a date with no time and the post is created as an unscheduled draft, not scheduled for a default time.
  • Campaign / State / Label chips — optional workflow metadata.

Leave the Open post page switch on and click Create. See Creating posts for everything in the composer.

5. Add a platform variant

A post is the platform-agnostic container; each platform it goes out on gets a variant (why). On the post page, click Add variant:

  • Platform — LinkedIn or X (Twitter). Options show how many accounts are connected per platform.
  • Posting account — the connected account it publishes from. If one account or a saved default exists, it is preselected. If several accounts are available, choose the right handle/page or select Create without account and attach one later.

One variant per platform per post — adding a second LinkedIn variant fails; edit the existing one instead. Write the platform-specific copy on each variant; see Platform variants.

6. Schedule it

In the post's property pane, click Schedule post, confirm each variant has a posting account, pick a date and time, and confirm. Scheduled variants publish automatically at that time — no further action needed. Reopen with Edit schedule to change it.
